Improvements In LCD Technology Over The Years
Improvements in LCD technology over the years has been steady and, lately, even spectacular. Liquid crystal display screens are popping up everywhere in greater proportions than ever before. These modern ways of displaying information have come a great distance, to the point where very tiny LCD screens can be found in very common consumer electronics or in the most modern automobiles and aircraft. It would seem that the CRT tube and heavyweight TVs are going the way of the dinosaur.
For example, imagine a few of the really popular liquid crystal display TVs out on the market nowadays. Some are so thin that it's hard to conceive of how they're able to put up a picture on their display screens. Actually, improvements in the way the display screen is lit are actually the reason for why their pictures look so sharp. This is because LED backlight technologies have begun to push fluorescent backlighting out of the way, improving the quality and sharpness of the display put out by the TV.
The way they work is that LEDs, or 'light emitting diodes, ' are placed along the edges of a liquid crystal display TV's display screen and hidden behind the TV bezel. They are excellent at improving the brightness, sharpness and clarity of a TV screen while also helping to dramatically slim its thickness down. This is just one example of how improvements in technology can take an already nice TV and turn it into something truly amazing.
Not that this is the only innovation that display screen technology has benefited from. There are now very tiny custom LCD screens that can be used for all manner of applications, including measurement and information dissemination. These little screens cost well under $100 and are capable of adding a seriously good looking and high-tech appearance to almost anything that once used old style analog gauges.
Considering that they also use far less energy, on average, than older digital or analog gauges, it's no wonder that custom liquid crystal display screens have made their way into aircraft cockpits or even personal automobiles and the like. This isn't to mention how useful they've become in medical equipment applications as well as all manner of measuring tasks.
A close relative to a liquid crystal display customized screen is the graphic LCD module. It can hook up quite easily to anything with a USB 2.0 or serial port connection and is very easily programmed to display any kind of data or information that's needed. It also costs around $100, meaning it's fairly affordable and able to be used to impart a sense of high-tech and high functionality to a great many different pieces of equipment.
When it comes to innovation, it seems that some of the best work is being done in taking liquid crystal display technology -- which actually has been around for decades -- and improving it by leaps and bounds. The first big step for the LCD, when it came to consumer applications, was the flat-panel TV. Since then, a lot of work has gone into improving that display, and the televisions and other display technologies now available are a full order of magnitude better than units from just a few years ago.

Willing to spare no expense to meet your streaming music demands? Then you now
have two more fairly high-end systems from Pioneer to consider. The company
has just released its new N-30 and N-50 networked audio players, which each
boast support for AirPlay and DLNA 1.5, as well as the ability to handle top-
end digital audio like 192kHz/24-Bit FLAC and WAV files. You'll also get a
2.5-inch LCD up front and control apps for both iOS and Android devices,
although you'll have to shell out a bit more for some optional adapters if you
want WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity. The N-50 model (pictured above) also
steps things up with gold-plated RCA jacks and an "armored chassis" designed
to reduce noise, plus support for additional audio features like Advanced
Sound Retriever and Sound Retriever AIR (which promise to enhance compressed
audio files). Look for it to set you back $699, with the lower-end N-30 model
