Prime Digital Camera Restore Problem - Broken LCD Screen
We stay in a throw-away society, it's a simple fact. You buy that model new fancy digital camera with all the bells and whistles for $four hundred, and in 6 months to 1 yr it is worth maybe half that, after which the unthinkable happens: you drop it and it breaks. The LCD is cracked, or the lens is jammed; what do you do? You head again to the store along with your poor little digital camera and the guy behind the counter (that knows nothing about cameras aside from what's written on the box, and even less about digicam restore) tells you it is not worth it to fix it and you should toss it in the trash. You are feeling ripped off and mad at the digital camera producer and also you toss it out and buy a new one made by any person else.
There are alternate options obtainable! You don't have to toss out that digicam, you'll be able to repair it yourself, send it in for repair, or promote it for components to any person else online.
If you want to repair it or get it repaired, I've some advice for you about what I believe is the 1 digital camera restore drawback: broken LCD screens.
It was hard for me to choose between damaged LCD screens and broken lenses, however I caught with LCD for 1 because it's so easy to interrupt your LCD that you do not even have to the touch the camera to do it!
The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is the view screen on the again of the digicam that lets you see menus, playback footage etc. The LCD is very thin, very fragile, and on many many cameras fully UNPROTECTED! Look in the back of your camera, is the display screen recessed slightly or is the back of the camera flat and easy? If it is flat you have got a protective 'window' or 'glass' over the LCD to assist prevent injury and breakage. If it's not flat, you have nothing protecting your LCD and will put a good quality LCD screen protector on the camera and NOT those thin, flimsy 'saran wrap' plastic film display screen protectors, they are worthless.
- Don't depart your camera in your automobile in summer or winter. Extreme heat may cause expansion of the liquid in the LCD and cause it to 'crack', and on the other side of things extreme chilly can cause it to freeze
- Do not put anything up in opposition to the LCD in your camera bag, it will bang towards the LCD and crack it (yes, even if it has a window over it, it's going to break!)
- Don't put your digital camera in your again pocket after which sit down!
- Don't put your camera in your entrance pocket and then roll over on it.
- ... Simply do not put your camera in your pants pocket please. =)
Okay, so it's damaged, what do you do now?
- The manufacturer will just web site influence damage and can refuse the repair even if the digicam wasn't dropped etc. You'll be able to strive, and I want you luck, but they most likely won't fix it.
- Look for a faulty digital camera on e***y (hey they do not pay me to advertise for them...) and make one good camera from the 2 if you're handy.
- Look for an precise digicam repair enterprise and never any person that will ship it to the producer and tell you it is $200 and four-6 weeks to repair. (IF they inform you this, they're NOT repairing your digicam for you, they're sending it to the manufacturer, assured)
Many LCD screens are very simple to put in and you are able to do it yourself and all you need is a small screwdriver. Different LCD's are very troublesome to install, and even professionals do not like to do them! I am unable to inform you Model .... is one of the best and Brand ... is the worst, it is really not like that. Certain SERIES of cameras have 1 or 2 models which might be troublesome to work on, but the rest of them are fairly straight forward. You must resolve for yourself if you want to open your digicam and check out the repair your self or not.
How is an LCD changed?
With most Canon digital digicam LCD screens for example (using them as the example as a result of they have the largest market share) all you do is disconnect the ribbon cable for the LCD and the backlight (the sunshine that shines by the LCD and permits you to see what's on the display) and then install the new LCD. Some include the backlight attached, some do not. Some backlights must be soldered to the mainboard of the camera, some do not.
- Be careful to not contact the flash capacitor contacts! You WILL zap your self in the event you do, and it will HURT a bit. You'll most likely throw your digicam across the room when it happens. (Yeah, I've achieved it, I have been repairing cameras for 5 years now so....) We now have 'flash capacitor dischargers' and use them each time we open a camera.
I hope this helps you get your digital digicam repaired and saves you time and money within the course of!
