The LeBronmeter is dedicated to LeBron James upcoming decision to either re-sign with the Cavaliers, which he can do in July or become a free agent after the 2007-08 season. LeBron has been quoted as saying "I cant wait
" to
", but all he wants to do is win an NBA championship. He will make his decision based on whether he is confident that he can do that with the team he has in Cleveland.
ALL LEBRON WANTS TO DO IS WIN NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The extra money he can make by signing another contract with Cleveland is irrelevant to LeBron. In fact, he could generate more income for himself by signing with one of two teams in a city he really enjoys, New York. Both the Knicks and the Nets will be able to clear enough cap space to sign LeBron when he becomes a free agent. Other cities like Orlando are said to be willing to offer LeBron a "King's Ransom."
The editorial staff of the LeBronmeter is from Cleveland. Our children idolize LeBron, parents and grandparents love him and peers respect him. People in Northeastern Ohio, from ages three to 93 simply adore LeBron James. As a native of Akron, Ohio, he has been, to date, a role model in terms of character and work ethic.
In an area that has been hard hit economically by the movement of manufacturing jobs to foreign nations and relocation of several major corporate headquarters, Northeastern Ohio would be crushed by the loss of LeBron James.
Even though LeBron has indicated a desire to stay here, you must realize we are talking about Cleveland professional sports. The Indians have not won a World Series since 1948, the Browns have never even been in a Super Bowl, winning their last championship in 1964, and the Cavaliers have never even been to the NBA Finals, having started in 1970. This is a sports town made famous by national advertising. Mrs. McNabb went and pounded salt in an old Cleveland wound by teaching football by describing "The Drive." This is Norman Rockwell of the Cleveland fan (circa 1965-2006). Many of us have had to experience it. But the memory lives on, from three to twenty times per year. At least, but the younger generation of Northeastern Ohioans are constantly reminded of Clevelands past
at least twice a year from NFL Films videos and Sportcenter Top 10 lists.
The task was not made any easier by the former management of the Cavaliers, leaving new owner Dan Gilbert and General Manager Danny Ferry in an extremely difficult position to make the Cavaliers a winner.
So the challenge is up to you. Cleveland- if you want to keep LeBron, you had better show more love than you do at the Q. To Knicks and Nets fans, as well as the rest of the other NBA cities- Vote and Donate to some great charities. Let us know how you feel.
