There is no change in the Lebronmeter after Tuesday’s loss at home to the Wizards. First, the outcome of the series is what will change the L Meter. That will have major implications. Your editorial staff that makes the odometer move, from Home Team Communications is going to drop our pen and notepad (unless g-d forbid, an injury to “you know who”) and simply enjoy the games.
We appreciate the chance to watch the series unfold and the magnificence of Lebron. The real Cleveland fan takes to him like marriage- for better or for worse.
I can’t say enough about the effect of the FANS AT THE Q. Your sustained, fever pitch attitude has made a major impression with Lebron and will be a significant factor in the movement of the Lebronmeter needle.
Lebron James scored 18 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter to end the New Jersey (Brooklyn~2009) Nets. James was as spectacular as he has ever been in his short NBA career, scoring on several unbelievable drives in the last minutes of the game. With the Wizards loss to the Hat on Saturday night, The Cavs have clinched home court advantage during the first round of the playoffs.
Although Lebron and his Cavalier teammates will be practice in preparation for the red hot New Jersey (~Brooklyn 2009) Nets, he will also have some free time on his hands. He will be able to scope out an apartment for himself and close friends to hang at when in the New York metropolitan area. This does not at all detract from his basketball work ethic, because his only concern now is the Cavaliers winning basketball games…but there is an off season to think about, which he richly deserves to enjoy.
On a side note, Jay-Z had a few things to say about King James.
The Cavaliers, playing without Center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who said his ankle has “swelled up twice its (normal) size”, lost 96-94 after a feverish comeback in the fourth quarter, in which they tied the game at 94 before Jamal Crawford’s game winning shot in the waning seconds. Lebron James passed up the tying shot attempt in a favor of a pass to sore fingered, moderate three point shooter Larry Hughes, whose three pointer clanked off the rim at the buzzer. This was the Cavs second loss this year to the 20-64 Knicks…..but Lebron sure looked at home in Madison Square Garden.
The Cavaliers played one of their best games of the season in destroying the 76ers tonight at the “Q”. That despite perennial Cav destroyer Allan Iverson going nuts (17-19 from the field)…and a productive Chris Webber. The Cavs received significant contributions from every player…and the ball boys as well. Larry Hughes returned to score ten points and play his usual great defense. His rust seemed to leave quickly, and he fit in the team concept very nicely.
The potential bad news is that Zydrunas Ilgauskas sprained his left ankle early in the first quarter. X-Rays and an MRI showed negative initial results. We need Z for the playoffs…and we will have to wait to see the severity of his ankle injury. The uninformed Cleveland fan will argue that we did great without him and it enabled the Cavs to run. The intelligent fans realize that his health is CRUCIAL to any success the Cavs will enjoy in the playoffs.
Lebronmeter.com will keep you updated with the latest inside information regarding Z’s progress. For you Cavs fans, enjoy the win and worry later!
Although Larry Hughes’ planned return to the Cavaliers is for the right reasons. We see this as a major mistake in the short term and long run. The Cavaliers would most likely be better served playing the balance of the year without Hughes. Even a player of his caliber will be hard to fit into the current team chemistry, even on a limited playing basis. More importantly, a hand that has been operated on TWICE during ONE SEASON- should be rested until next season. Meter — goes up .5.
Once again, another national legacy, The Shot. May 7, 1989 will go down as the basketball part of the “The” Nightmares of Cleveland sports legend series.. The Cavs were about to kick an aspiring Michael Jordan form the playoffs again, Craig Ehlo did his best John Havilcek during the last minute, but it was Jordan’s hanging in slow motion jumper…at the buzzer that won the game and catapulted him up the road to numerous championships.
It was nice to see, the begining of the 1000th use of that shot in a commercial, they portrayed Jordan as missing the shot. A twenty second dream. A twenty year Cav nightmare.
The Cleveland Cavaliers clinced their first playoff appearance in eight years with a 107-94 win over one of the NBA’s finest- the Dallas Mavericks. Lebron had another monster game, …and continues to get a more consistent level of teammate suport.
The BOTTOM LINE- team has won seven in a row, and seem to be- slowly, but surely showing signs of TRUSTING EACH OTHER as teamates and have had continuity in their line up and rotation required to deliver that mental edge.
LET LARRY HUGHES REST- UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
meter meal: Very Good day for Cleveland (-.5)
The Cavaliers announce that they want to build a $20 million dollar practice facility in Independence, Ohio. The agreement includes provisions for the Cleveland suburb to share tax proceeds with the City of Cleveland in a transaction that needs approval of both city councils. The team plans the facility to be state of the art, and be amongst the best in the NBA. (down 3 units)
